Lighting the beacon

Last night people from our local community lit one of many “community beacons” that were lit around the world as part of the celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It was a really nice atmosphere, even though the weather was a bit on the cold side. We went to the park with our neighbours, and waited around for a bit until the beacon was lit. It was so cold I had to wear my winter coat and my gloves! Anyway, here are a few pictures of the event:

Lights on the river

People around the beacon (which was more like a bonfire, really)

Flame!

The inevitable ‘person using flag as cloak’

Fireworks over the hill

The fire dying down a bit

Lovely photos. My husband and I went to an ‘indoor street party’ yesterday at our next door neighbours house (it was supposed to be outside but it was raining) and it was great fun.

What a fun event… shame about the cold weather though. Lovely shots.
