In September, I saw productions of two ‘films-made-into-musicals’.
The first was Sister Act , which some ex-librarians and I went to see at the beginning of September. It’s a bit bonkers, but a lot of fun. The only slightly negative thing people had to say about it was that it doesn’t include the well-known songs from [...]

Coventry Market The Musical

I found this today. I think it’s lovely, in its own way, and it made me smile a lot. The musical was commisioned by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire for the 50th anniversary of Coventry Market in 2008. All the people in the film work or shop in the market.
A Little Night Music

Our main reason for going to London yesterday was to see A Little Night Music, which is currently playing at the Garrick Theatre (but only until 25th July, alas). As you know, I’m not very good at reviews, so all I really have to say about it is that it was excellent – really, really, [...]

Odds
Well, the concert didn’t go as badly as I feared it might. In fact, most of it went quite well, apart from the bit in I Vow To Thee My Country when we all started singing the second verse when actually we should have been silent and waiting for the piano introduction to finish. It was one [...]
“The night was alive with a thousand voices”: Titanic the Musical

If you have any negative preconceptions as to what a musical about the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic might be like, please put them aside and, if you can get there tomorrow afternoon or evening, go and see Titanic the Musical at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. I went to see it last night and loved it.
The music [...]

I know, it’s 2008 already and I should be looking forward, not back to 2007. However, I just wanted to share some of the good, great and gorgeous things that I was fortunate enough to experience during the year just past. So, here are (some of) 2007’s best bits in vaguely chronological order:
My birthday and our anniversary weekend [...]

Today, today, what has happened today? On the way home I was feeling that my grip on reality is slipping. That’s not a good sign. I don’t really know why I was feeling this way, as today was not particularly surreal. It was rather average, in fact.
It is Monday, and so I went to work. [...]
I blame Stephen Sondheim

I’ve been listening to one of Stephen Sondheim’s musicals, Company, during the past week, which made me think about a few things, such as love, marriage, commitment, loneliness and life in general. Nothing too serious. Please forgive me if any of the following sound ridiculous, and for any rambling.
I realised that, for a married person, I have quite a [...]

On Thursday I went to see two of my colleagues perform in the local operatic society’s production of Kiss Me, Kate. Their involvement in this production has been partly, although not solely, responsible for the singing that’s been going on in the Reader Services office in the past few months. The dancing in the office definitely had a [...]
