about

This is a little side project away from my main blog, Bookmouse. I started getting interested in home decoration or home style or whatever you like to call it when I began nesting after the birth of our daughter, B. Well, I think it was a combination of nesting and perhaps just spending more time in the house (after several years of working full-time with a long-ish commute) and caring more about what it was like! Also, I just like designing things and trying to make them look better.

We live in a rented house, so none of the changes I’ve made are particularly big, but enough to make the rooms look a bit different; providing a bit of cohesion where possible and otherwise making the most of having random furniture and decor!

I’ve tried to do all my ‘home styling’ as cheaply as possible, re-using or re-purposing things I already had, buying from charity shops and in sales, with only the occasional ‘splurge’ purchase. I will give prices of things where possible, but [disclaimer] prices may have changed and/or items may no longer be available.

I hope you enjoy this blog and find it useful for helping to make the most of what you already have, particularly if you’re also in a rented house and on a budget!

  1. Looking forward to reading this blog. We moved into our house about three years ago and most of our spare money went on doing essential repairs and redecoration. When we redecorated we went for a neutral colour scheme for the walls and carpets. (Mainly magnolia or similar walls and brown/beige carpets). To be honest it looks a bit bland! So I could do with some good, cheap ideas to cheer it up and personalise it 🙂
